Equinox Corporation, New York, New York, July 31st 2000:
Equinox has been awarded a $749,240 Phase II SBIR contract from
DARPA, titled "Smarter Sensors Using Hybrid Multichip Camera
Technology". This award will allow the development of video
surveillance algorithms to take advantage of fused visible and thermal
infrared images.
This funding is for the development of a novel sensor and image
understanding technology that completely integrates simultaneously
registered CCD and FLIR imaging into a single unified camera
system. Such a hybrid sensor exploits unique complementary imaging
characteristics of these sensing modalities for day-night and
all-weather operation. Novel image understanding algorithms for data
fusion enable unique 'smart sensor' capabilities for a variety of
applications will be developed.
Since 1999 Equinox has been a leading provider of unique image fusion
products to the US Military spanning algorithms, electronics hardware
and sensor optics. Equinox has produced groundbreaking technology for
providing fusion of thermal infrared and visible modalities to the
dismounted soldier as well as to Naval, Aerial and Biometric
systems. In polarimetry Equinox has unsurpassed expertise in many
types of imaging systems. Equinox is currently developing a number of
automatic target detection, tracking and recognition systems.
