Visualization Information

Color visualization of first three Stokes parameters describing partial linear polarization transformed into polarization orientation, Degree Of Polarization (DOP) and intensity. Orientation of the linear axis of polarization, from 0-180 degrees, is visualized as a color hue. DOP quantifying the percentage of linear polarized content, is visualized as saturation respective to a color hue. Intensity of light maps into intensity itself. As examples, unpolarized light appears achromatic as DOP is 0% and therefore totally unsaturated. Linear polarized light has DOP 100% and so appears as a strongly saturated hue.
